Separate system-wide from one-app slowness

If only one program is slow, the operating system may not be the main cause.

Check free storage and active apps

Low space and many background tasks can affect responsiveness.

Install supported updates

Microsoft's current Windows performance guidance includes installing Windows and optional driver updates and checking for malware.

Avoid random cleanup utilities

Use built-in operating-system tools and reputable vendor guidance rather than unknown 'speed booster' software.
